Sunday Games- All games except TOP 8 Men's and Women's Cancelled

Captains and Players,

Please note that all games (outside of the TOP 8 men's and women's playoffs) have been canceled.

Due to the condition of the fields after day one play, and the constant rain, the local league has decided to shut down many of the fields in the best interests of the fields and the players.

If rain and/or Lightning continue to persist, OCUA and No Borders will be force to cancel the TOP 8 men's and women's finals on Sunday.

Please find links to the Men's and Women's finals below.

Field Food and Tournament Food Service Options

As in previous years, OCUA will be offering the same terrific selection of complimentary field food comprised of fresh bagels with cream cheese or peanut butter, bakery style cookies and fresh fruit. This food will be available near the administration/disc central tent throughout the tournament.

In addition to the complimentary field food, tournament participants will be able to purchase food and beverages from a variety of vendors on site. Lunch and dinner choices (including vegetarian options, barbequed hamburgers and hotdogs, shawarma and pizza) will be available for purchase at reasonable prices. In addition, coffee and baked goods will also be for sale.

Tournament organizers invite teams to socialize and watch the final matches of the day while enjoying complimentary chips and salsa at the beer garden.

Note that there is no municipal water service at UPI but bottled water will be available free of charge for players wishing to refill their bottles.

Beer Garden

As in the past, there will also be beer available within the beer garden located on the UPI rise.

For legal reasons, it is important to note the following:

  • Please do not drink outside the beer garden area
  • Please do not bring or consume outside alcohol at the fields
  • Please use recycling and garbage bins
Saturday Showcase Game

This year's Saturday showcase will feature two excellent teams from the women's power pool division.

The schedule will allow for all players to watch this game, and we encourage you to enjoy this game from the beer gardens.

The showcase game will be held at field 2.

Rogers TV

Rogers TV will be televising the finals of both the men's and women's divisions. It will be shown throughout the province to an audience upwards of 2.2 million viewers.

Please look at the schedules for each division to find out the times. Fans are welcome!

Weather Protocol

Weather Protocol

No one wants the weather to be sweet this weekend more than I do. However, please note that very heavy rains or Lightning.

OCUA (local league has the following weather protocol that we will follow.

If you see lightning your game should be discontinued. In order to ensure the safety of our members OCUA employs the "30-30" rule. The first 30 refers to seconds. If you see lightning and can 'stall count' to thirty or more before you hear the attending thunder, then the lightning is at a safe distance and you can leave the field in normal fashion. Less than thirty and you should immediately discontinue play and seek appropriate cover quickly. The second 30 refers to 30 minutes. You should wait for half an hour until after the last lightning is observed before resuming your game.

If you are caught in the open by a sudden storm, get to shelter as fast as you can. An automobile provides some protection due to its rubber tires; standing beside a car with an umbrella does not. Remember that lightning is attracted to conductive material like the metal of an automobile. If you are unable to reach shelter, then assuming the 'lightning safety position' is the best alternative. Squat to lower your profile and touch your heels together, in order to direct any charge away from vital organs to your legs. Cover your ears to avoid damage from thunder. Never lie on the ground, as lightning will travel along wet ground and by lying down you have exposed your heart to the possibility of close contact with a ground traveling strike. If your body hair stands up, then a strike is imminent, immediately assume the safety position or get to cover.

OCUA Volunteers Needed to work with Rogers TV at No Borders 2009!

The No Borders tournament committee is looking for dedicated volunteers to assist the Rogers TV crew with the filming of the Open and Womens championship games.

We are looking for 2 or 3 individuals to commentate the elite championship game in both gender divisions. Commentators must dedicate time during the weekend to familiarize themselves with semi-final and final teams, the history of No Borders, and meet Rogers requirements as needed. Knowledge of the game at the competitive level is also required.

Interested individuals should be comfortable speaking about the game both on and off camera and have some media background. Other assets would include experience playing at the competitive level, and experience in high level Ultimate strategy.

The broadcast time for the Womens finals will be Sunday July 26th from 12:10 pm- 2:40 pm and the Mens will be Sunday July 26th from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Lunch will be provided to the commentators on the day of filming.

If you are interested in this amazing volunteer opportunity, please submit your name along with a letter explaining how you meet the above mentioned requirements no later than Monday July 13th to teri-lynne@ocua.ca

*We will be conducting interviews on July 14th and 15th.
